God is Gay

Breaking Away from Toxic, Patriarchal Theology

Reinterpret the “clobber” verses in the Bible and recognize how they have been taken out of context to condemn and dehumanize the LGBTQIA+ community.

Discover how religious trauma is as real and damaging as any other kind of trauma we may experience in life.

Become more informed about biological, sexual, and gender fluidity in science, spirituality and nature.

Free yourself from dangerous patriarchal, homophobic, and transphobic beliefs.

I wish I had a dollar for every time I heard, “It’s Adam and Eve NOT Adam and Steve.”

How many times have you heard Bible-thumping Christians proclaim that being gay is a sin?

I used to feel powerless and would shrink in defeat when they used scriptural ‘clobber verses’ to justify their bigotry and homophobia.

I’m also embarrassed to say there was a time I shared their toxic beliefs.

Maybe you once did, too.

Maybe you’re LGBTQIA+ and still struggle with these harmful beliefs because they were instilled in you by family or a religious community.

Dear one, how many years have you suffered in silence?

Filled with guilt and shame?

Or maybe you’re someone who has witnessed the pain and persecution of an LGBTQIA+ friend or family member.

And anything you said in their defense was smacked down and brushed off because you couldn’t argue “the truth.”

Even after I had deconstructed from organized religion, I didn’t know how to respond to people who weaponized scripture to condemn the LGBTQIA+ community.

Now, years later, I realize they weren’t actually following scripture — they were following their personal ideologies.

What do I mean by that?

What if we told you that the 'clobber verses' were taken out of context and mistranslated?

What if we showed you studies from America’s leading medical journal detailing how sexual and gender fluidity are perfectly natural?

What if we offered you examples of how Queerness has been prevalent and even celebrated in spirituality, society and culture all over the world since the beginning of time?

What if we opened your eyes to the reality that Christianity only benefits one demographic — and not only supports, but enables and encourages the oppression and marginalization of anyone who is not a white, cishetero, male Christian?

What if we told you that God is not only gay but lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, asexual, intersex and two-spirit, among many other things?

For far too long, the LGBTQIA+ community has been ostracized and vilified by the church and organized religion as a whole.

It’s time to once and for all dispel the myth that being LGBTQIA+ is unnatural, much less a “sin,” uncover the truth about the manipulative and oppressive power of patriarchy and recognize Queerness as the gift it truly is.
